HAPPY HOLI
Happy Holi to all my reader friends
Holi is the festival of colours. Its vibrancy and enthusiasm are beyond imagination. Hindus all over the world celebrate the festival on the full moon day of the Phalguna month.
The festival has a mythological story associated with it. The story is of Prahlad, a devotee of Lord Vishnu, and his father, King Hiranyakashyap, who considered himself a god. He had ordered his people to worship him as god. His son Prahlad refused to do so.
The king was very upset with his son's behaviour and ordered his sister Holika to sit in fire with his son Prahlad in her lap. Holika had a boon that made her immune to fire 🔥. She tricked Prahlad into sitting on her lap in the fire, but he prayed to Vishnu, and the boon backfired – Holika burned, while Prahlad was saved.
Another legend says Holi celebrates the divine love of Krishna and Radha. The story goes that Krishna smeared colour on Radha's face, starting a tradition of playing with colours.
The two-day festival begins with Holika Dahan, burning of bonfires in societies on the previous night of Poornima.
It symbolises the burning of evil and victory of righteousness and truth.
Along with Hindus, people from other faiths and religions also celebrate Holi. It marks the global union of culture and diversity.
Holi brings people of different classes, castes, and religions together. It's a time of friendship and social bonding with renewal of relationships. Children play with colours and pichkari. Adults forget and forgive their differences. Everyone indulges in special delicacies like gujiya, dahi wada, sweets, and thandai.
Holi is a festival which celebrates the victory of good over evil, love, and the arrival of spring 🌸.
